Annual report writing season is here. For so many nonprofits this time of the year can be daunting. It happens all too often: a non-profit produces an annual report that is dry, crowded with needless financial data and, sadly, destined for someone’s trash bin. But it does not and should not be this way.
An annual report represents a golden opportunity to communicate directly with donors. It should tell the story of your organization and its people in a compelling way. It should bring your organization’s accomplishments to life. And, ultimately, it should inspire future support from donors, who are, in turn, reassured that their philanthropy is making a meaningful difference in the world — and who may even share the report with relatives, friends and other prospective donors.
The bottom line is this: do not let your nonprofit’s annual report paint a stale, uninspiring portrait of your nonprofit’s hard work. Follow these 10 steps to create a nonprofit report that sends a powerful message to donors, volunteers and supporters.
Last week, I had the pleasure of conducting a seminar titled, “101 Ways to Generate Publicity,” at the Power Conference in Bethesda, Maryland. The conference boasted roughly 800 attendees and 170 exhibitors—the largest conference and gathering of women business owners in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Check out my presentation about small business publicity, and stay tuned for the video that I will be uploading next week.
If you are looking for hard-hitting, actionable ideas, be sure to join our Facebook community to receive a FREE copy of one of my presentation handouts. We will be offering this for a limited time only, as the eBook on the subject will be released in the coming months.
Of course, there are more than 101 ways to generate publicity. What ideas would you add?
I will be hosting a new podcast series with episodes that focus on branding, public relations and marketing. The podcast will include lively discussions, my plogs and reports from the field, and interviews with experts across the creative landscape: publicists, marketers, advertisers, graphic designers and more.
This format will enable me to continue to invest in nonprofits, entrepreneurs and small businesses that endeavor to provide top-tier products and services. I encourage you to leave a message with your public relations and marketing questions by clicking on the “Send Voicemail” tab on the right or by calling 240.696.3268.
If you are looking for marketing solutions to reach more customers or want to generate buzz and publicity to advance your cause, this is the show for you.
We are launching the show next month. Check back for regular updates.
